The Bunny

This is a photographic project that I’ve been working on slowly since late 2020. I ordered a couple of leather masks during the summers of 2020 after trying to come up with some new creative themes to photograph. It took several months to get them since they were coming from the Ukraine at the very beginning of Covid, when everything was locked down.

Initially, I just wanted to photograph “someone” in them, but after the second shoot using The Bunny mask in January 2021, I decided that an ongoing series of various people as The Bunny would be dope. So I started plotting on people that I would reach out to if I thought they’d make a great The Bunny. After the third shoot with the mask, my idea “expanded” to only having women of color be The Bunny, which slowed down my process a bit as I’ve always had a difficult time finding women of color who, both, I wanted to created with and who wanted to create with me (or at least made it possible to do so). Also, all of the photographs will be captured with my Hasselblad 500CM on Ilford HP5 Plus (one potential exception to the film stock restriction).

At this point, The Bunny has become the project that I will always work on no matter how fast or slow it progresses, and no matter what else I’m working on. Initially, I wanted to create a photo book from the photographs that I made for this project, and I still may, but when it started becoming a slower and slower project I started thinking of other way to share it with those interested and I think I’ve found it.

I’ve been moving further and further away from sharing full works online, but I think that this is one of those things that can work within the realm of the Internet, along with my desire to have printed work in the world. So here’s the plan:

I’ve made one photograph from each shoot available a 5 edition 20x20 inch prints on Moab Entrada Bright Rag Paper in my darkroom shop. This will continue with one photograph from all future shoots as well. In addition to that, I will be putting together a gallery of the photographs from each shoot here on my site with some information about the shoot, maybe some creative back story when it exists, and other things.

So for all of you out there who has seen my The Bunny photographs and like them, I’m trying to give you a little something to make them a little more special to you. And I hope this fulfills that. Stay tuned for more information on the gallery and other future The Bunny updates.
