I don’t remember what it was that made me want to dig through my drawer full of CD-R’s from 20 years ago, but I did and I dug out a bunch of the music that I recorded in my days of wanting to be a rapper 22 to 24 years ago. 20 years ago seems like such a long time ago, to the point that I don’t know where any of the people that I created this music with are today. On top of that, I’m probably the only one of us that still has any of this music.

Then I thought about where I was sitting listening to this old music. From recording music in a community computer center that had a recording setup to sitting in my spare room turned creative space, remembering something that an old friend said to me a little over 10 years ago (paraphrasing): “You guys were making music in high school and you’re still doing it. That’s dope.” Bringing that back to the CD’s above, I feel like a lot of the people on them probably didn’t push on with the music. I couldn’t imagine giving it up. It’s allowed me to see and do so many things.

Now, I just have to rediscover myself in my music and find the inspiration to create the way I was 20 years ago, even 10 years ago. That’s been rough lately.
