Slowing Down

I’m sure I’ve spoke about this before. Maybe not here. It may have been a tweet on the Twitters. But every year I start thinking more and more about slowing down the amount of photographs I create to focus more on the photographs that I’m creating.

Toward the end of 2022, I decided that the third volume of my Create book series would be my final one as a means to both cut back on the amount of shooting that I was doing as well as to keep some money in my pockets for some life things that I’m planning for the near future. (I have a couple more shoots before I call the creating process for Create Vol. 3 complete and begin putting together the book layout.)

While setting up my last few shoots for this book, I’ve been thinking about what it is that I want to focus on while I’m not trying to shoot someone every weekend as I had been doing for the past few years. There are two people that I make an effort to create something with at least once a year and have kinda of formed a pact to make that happen (Devi and India Williams), and in my head, while planning our second shoot, I’ve added one more person to that list (more details on that later). With that being said, I think I’ve come to the decision to do four “big” shoots a year; one with each of these three people, plus one wildcard each year. This feels like a great way for me to work because I like consistency, and having consistent group of talent to throw ideas around with will make creating more fun for me. This doesn’t mean that I won’t be shooting anyone else throughout the year, but my focus will be on these four shoots.

I’m still working out the details on how I want to do this. Some of you may already be aware that India Williams and I have agreed to try our best to make every Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend the weekend that we get together and shoot as we’ve done it for all three of our shoot (2020, 2021, and 2023). Based on the final shoot for 2023 that I’m planning, it’s looking like it will land on the same weekend that it did when I shoot said model last year (who they are is a secret right now since this is a special shoot). So I’m thinking a shoot every three months, or close to it.

Let’s see how this all plays out as we get closer to the end of the year. But in the meantime, stay tuned because I have some big things happening the second half of this year. Some things that I’m very happy about, and that I think you’ll like as well.
